Not only has Turbulence Training been proven to work in the gym, but it’s also backed by real, hard science. In fact, I stumbled upon the complete Turbulence Training system in the late 1990’s when I was a lowly Exercise Physiology graduate student at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.  

At that time, I was reading dozens of scientific research studies on fat loss, muscle building, testosterone, supplements, metabolism, and the best workout programs – including studies that proved you could lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.

In the Spring of 1999 I was studying androstenedione (the hormone used by Mark McGwire during his legendary home run record chase) and creatine (one of the few sport supplements that works). My studies meant I had to spend long hours in the lab and all but eliminated my workout time.

In fact, during the final push to finish my graduate thesis, I was literally in the lab from 7am to 11pm, five days per week. (I still remember trying to finish up experiments on Friday nights, so I could rush out to catch the end of a party – those were the days!)

Sandwiched in my work day was a single 45-minute time slot where I could leave the lab, run over to the gym, do a quick workout, and rush back just in the nick of time to get the next experiment started (I was using an expensive “gamma-counter” machine to measure testosterone in the blood and we couldn’t afford to waste any time).

Based on my years of lifting weights (since my first old York Universal set in my parents’ basement at the age of 16), my experience as the University strength and conditioning coach to over 415 athletes, and to the recent research studies I had read on interval training, I created a powerful, fast, effective, total-body, fat burning, muscle building workout that I was able to finish in less than 45 minutes.

Weight loss workout routinesWhile my years of strength training were crucial to the development of this new workout system, there was also one other secret weapon that went into the Turbulence Training workouts. And that was the hundreds of research papers that I had read in the past 5 years while studying for my Kinesiology and Master’s degrees.

After Thousands Of Hours Of Research And Personal Training Sessions, I Discovered The Scientifically Proven Secret For Getting More Fat Burning Results in Less Time

In particular, there were two little-known studies that stood out and had a huge impact on the Turbulence Training workouts used by thousands of men and women today.

I almost didn’t see the first study. It was tucked away in the corner of a major scientific conference, and if I hadn’t been searching high and low for every study on fat burning exercise, I would have totally missed this hidden gem.

In this revolutionary study, researchers put subjects through two different workouts. In the first session, the subjects did a workout using an intensity that allowed them to perform 12 repetitions per set. In the second session, the intensity was increased so the subjects could complete only 8 repetitions per set.

The difference in workouts was small, but the effects were dramatic. The researchers found that the 8 repetitions per set workout caused the subjects to burn more calories during the recovery period after the workout. This is due to what I call “turbulence” that is put on the muscles during hard workouts.

The more intense your workouts, the more “turbulence” you put on your muscles and the more energy required during the recovery period, and thus, the more fat you burn!

That is what Turbulence Training means to you!

Research Update: In 2007, I stumbled across another remarkable study and what might be one of the most important pieces of research to ever support Turbulence Training. Let me tell you about it…

First, the research study was performed at Purdue University, where they had dozens of men (and even women) over the age of 60 start a 12-week resistance training program. None of the subjects were instructed to change their diet or do any cardio. All they had to do was three days per week of resistance training.

And at the end of the 12 weeks, the researchers were shocked at the results. Not only did the subjects gain four pounds of lean mass (including muscle), but they also lost four pounds of fat.

These men and women, with an average age of more than 60, managed to gain muscle and lose fat at the SAME time. Now just imagine what Turbulence Training can do for you when you combine the resistance training, interval training, and Dr. Chris Mohr’s fat loss nutrition guidelines.

But back in 1999, long before research confirmed you could gain muscle and lose fat at the same time, I was busy investigating the truth about cardio for fat loss. And you’re going to be surprised by what I found.

The second critical study to the development of Turbulence Training was the classic cardio versus interval training study completed at Laval University in Quebec City. This was the first ever battle in the “cardio wars”, pitting old-school slow cardio against the more intense workouts known as interval training.

When it was all said and done, the subjects in the interval training group burned more fat than the group that did the slow cardio, even though the cardio group exercised more.

Research Update: Over 12 years later, the second battle in the “cardio wars” was reported in a research study from Sydney, Australia. In this study, one group of subjects completed 20 minutes of interval training three times per week while another group of subjects did 40 minutes of slow cardio three times per week.

The results were shocking. Not only did the interval training group lose more belly fat than the cardio group, but the results showed the slow cardio barely lost any fat at all! That’s why I keep telling my clients to “Just Say NO to Cardio”. You simply do NOT need to do long, slow cardio workouts to burn belly fat.
